For those that want to make sure that they stay on top of their finances, then one such step that they must take at least a few times a year is checking out their credit report. The credit report of a person is something that is going to affect the person in many ways and making sure that it is correct is the only way to ensure that you are getting judged fairly. So what happens when there is a mistake on your credit report? You have to dispute the errors in order to make sure that it goes back to how it should be done.
In order to dispute the errors on your credit report, you will need to get a copy of your report, then go through and highlight each error that you are finding. Along with the highlighting of the error, you need to include the reason that this is an error. For example, if the account was paid off, then you need to include a billing statement showing that the account is paid off. If the account is one that you never opened, then you need to state this as well.
You will want to send all the information into the credit-reporting agency and then wait for the response, which could take several weeks. With each credit agency you are going to have to do this, and you may find that some of the errors are not on some of the reports that you are seeing, which is nothing to be on high alert about. If you find that the errors are not being corrected, then you need to go a step further and take more action. This may involve sending detailed records to the company and demanding a response. However, for the most part when someone points out an error, the companies are more than happy to fix this for them since it is an error.
