Many people have credit cards and use them on a regular basis, but do not know that by using credit cards, they are entitled to certain privileges. One privilege is that if you use your credit card to buy a product and it is damaged, but the company refuses to replace it, you do have two options. You can stop the payment on your card and file a dispute between you and the company or you can just refuse to pay for it.
The law will also give you a way to correct any errors that you find on your periodic account. In addition, if your card was stolen or lost the unlawful charges you would be responsible for is restricted only if you follow the appropriate actions for notifying the company.
Most of the time when you use your credit card the company will match your signature on the payment with the signature on the card to make sure that it is still valid. If the store clerk asks you to write down your telephone number or address they are breaking the law. In addition, you do not have to show your credit card to the company if you are paying by check nor does the company have any right to ask for the card to copy the number on your check. The company cannot charge your credit card if your check should bounce for any reasons.
